Google Chrome 19 brings not only the new Open Tab sync feature, but also a number of important improvements in the security sector. Totaling 20, the list includes 5 low, 7 medium and 8 high severity bugs.

The flaws cataloged as being low-severity were attributed to Aki Helin, Brett Wilson and Charlie Reis, both from the Chromium dev community, Arthur Gerkis, and Haifei Li of Microsoft and MSVR.

The vulnerabilities identified by Gerkis and Li affected only Linux, respectively only Windows users.

Moving on to the more important weaknesses addressed in the latest version of the web browser, we find names such as psaldorn, again Aki Helin and Arthur Gerkis, and the ever present miaubiz.

One of the flaws uncovered by Helin of OUSPG, refers to an issue with the Nvidia driver, which only affected Linux versions.

For their findings, the security experts were awarded a total of $2,000 (1,500 EUR).

The list of the more important bugs includes a use-after-free issue with the style element, in table handling and in PDF. A number of out-of-bounds bugs and an invalid write in v8 regex were also resolved.

The discoveries of the high priority vulnerabilities were rewarded with a total of $5,500 (4,200 EUR).

Also, this release features additional awards handed out for the “awesomeness” of some experts.

“We’d also like to thank Aki Helin of OUSPG, Sławomir Błażek, Chamal de Silva, miaubiz, Arthur Gerkis and Christian Holler for working with us during the development cycle and preventing security regressions from ever reaching the stable channel. $9000 of additional rewards were issued for this awesomeness,” Anthony Laforge of Google Chrome wrote.

Users are advised to immediately download and install the latest variant to ensure that they are protected against malicious cyber operations that may leverage the recently patched security holes.
