Better or worse than Windows Mobile 5?

After lots of rumors about the open source operating system made by Google, called Android, the marvelous creation is finally out and running. The first impression that Android made is that it is going to be a huge phone operating system, and from all the tests that have been made, everybody can say the same thing.

The OS can be run on larger VGA devices, but it won't say no to those traditional smart phone layouts. One of the neatest things that Android can do is the fact that it lets the user play Quake. Soon, you won't be needing a PC for that, just your "simple" smart phone that will live up to that lucrative task.

Also, the operating system will be able to support some other stuff, such as the touchscreen, the 3G compatibility, a webkit-based browser, optimized Java runtime layer (a.k.a. Dalvik Virtual Machine) and threaded text messaging. For the media freaks, it's good to know that Google has thought of bringing to the table lots of format compatibilities, such as MPEG-4, h.264, MP3, and AAC file formats and accelerated 3D graphics.

As a "reward" for those who will use the operating system, Google prepared a little surprise. Those who will make the effort to surf the Open Handset Alliance site can download the SDK for a variety of platforms. After this, you can start trycracking its code, entering the Android Developer Challenge.

Well, if you think you do that just for fun, big mistake. If are able to make the code break, you will be one of the winners that can take home part of the $10 million prize for this game.

If you're still not convinced about the marvels of the Android, you can check some reviews around the Internet, but many will say the same thing, that this is better than Windows Mobile 5. And that's despite some people from Verizon, who only greeted the new OS by: "welcoming the support of Google, handset makers and others for our goal of providing more open development of applications on mobile handsets".
