Take the Tumbledown Trails Golf Course in Wisconsin for example – their 9 hole special was priced at $9.11(€7), in the spirit of commemorating the event. Another option was playing 18 holes for $19.11 (€14.4).
Course owners posted their announcement in the local paper and on Facebook, but the community met the decision with anger.
Manager Marc Watts describes receiving a lot of complaints and a few death threats, as reported by the Mirror.
"We hope that everyone will now see this as a positive as we really meant it to be. Again we do sincerely apologize for offending anyone and hope that you do accept our sincere apology," he has posted on Facebook.
