BioWare has announced a new piece of downloadable content for its hit role playing game Dragon Age: Origins. It is entitled Golems of Amgarrak and it will be released simultaneously on the PlayStation Network, Xbox Live Marketplace and PC for 5 dollars or 400 Microsoft and BioWare Points. The developer is boasting that this is a packaged designed for its hardcore audience, with the combat being very challenging.

In an interview with mmorpg.com, BioWare's Ferret Baudoin said that, “Golems is seriously tough. If you played through Origins and thought it couldn’t keep up with your mad skills, then this is the DLC for you. You face a brand new boss who has more than a few tricks up his sleeve, and unless you bring your A-game you won’t last long. Getting the hardest achievement for this DLC is a real badge of honor. Only a handful of BioWarians managed that accomplishment.”

The player will be joined by a new companion for the duration of this quest. Jerrik Dace, a noble dwarven ranger, and his bronto Snug will come along for the ride. He will be a dual wielding character and Snug is said to be very powerful. Their presence has been deemed necessary to be able to go through the very difficult battles of this small expansion pack. Golems of Amgarrak will be comprised of a tricky puzzle alongside the combat, so Dragon Age fans should expect some variety from this DLC.

The story revolves around the dwarves long lost weapon, the golems. While the original title explores this side of the narrative for a bit, this package is meant to further expose that haunting details of the creation of golems. Baudoin detailed the story of Golems of Amgarrak a bit, saying that, “If legends of Amgarrak are to be believed, the dwarven smiths found new techniques of modifying old golems, all in an effort to make the next generation of golems. Expeditions sent on far patrols in the deep roads occasionally come across strange golems doing amazing things. Some say that perhaps it was left over golem from the Legion of Steel. But others whisper, “Amgarrak.” Certainly if anyone managed to find the Halls of Amgarrak, they should expect some amazing things.”
