Actor wins for “Birdman,” says family is everything

Michael Keaton hates to be told that he’s having one of the most spectacular comebacks in film right now, because, he says, he’s never gone anywhere to come back from – but that doesn’t change the fact that the statement is accurate.

Last night at the Golden Globes 2015, held at the Beverly Hilton Hotel in California and airing live on NBC, he took home the award for Best Lead Actor in a Comedy for his performance in “Birdman,” thus further strengthening his odds at winning an Oscar for Best Actor next month, at the Academy Awards.

His acceptance speech was a mixture of anecdotes about his upbringing and the importance family holds for him, and ended with him getting completely chocked up when talking about his “best friend,” who also happened to be his son Sean.

Though many in the audience were clearly confused as to the message he was trying to send with his speech right at first, by the time he got to that part, everyone was visibly moved.

Michael Keaton’s acceptance speech was probably one of the best of the night – and probably the longest too. Am I imagining things or did he get at least twice the time other winners got? Even producers must have been moved to tears and forgot to play the music that signals winners they should “wrap it up.”
