Neither Benedict Cumberbatch nor Jennifer Aniston won anything at last night’s Golden Globes 2015, even though they have been campaigning hard for recognition this season, perhaps the hardest of all other favorites. But had there been an award for cuteness, they would have won it.

We already knew from insiders that the two would present the first award of the evening together, so the whole thing about “who wants to present with Jennifer Aniston, please raise your hand?” bit from co-hosts Tina Fey and Amy Poehler was a part of the act.

Still, the awkwardness between them seemed so real that even those who did know about the skit had trouble believing it had been scripted.

Benedict and Jennifer presented the Best Supporting Actor in a Motion Picture award and seemed to have a lot of fun playing off the feigned awkwardness of the other. J.K. Simmons won and set the tone for a night packed with emotional and occasionally biting speeches.

Benedict Cumberbatch was in the running for Best Actor Drama for “The Imitation Game,” and Aniston was nominated for Best Actress Drama for “Cake.” Those awards went to Eddie Redmayne (“The Theory of Everything) and Julianne Moore (“Still Alice”).
