HBO’s Liberace biopic “Behind the Candelabra,” directed by Steven Soderbergh and starring Michael Douglas and Matt Damon as not-so-secret lovers, was a hit with fans when it aired last year, but also a hit with critics, as it’s been reaping awards ever since.

It also earned Michael Douglas another Golden Globe at the 2014 edition of the gala, held last night in Beverly Hills, at the Beverly Hilton Hotel.

Above is his acceptance. Douglas dedicated his win in the Best Performance by an Actor in a Series, Mini-Series or Motion Picture Made for Television category, to his wife Catherine Zeta Jones and his children.

He also made sure he thanked his co-star Matt Damon, who was actually running against him for the award in the same category, but this time, he kept the jokes safe for kids as well. “The reason you're not up here is because I had more sequins,” Michael laughed.

The actor also thanked his director, with whom he’d worked before on “Traffic,” the cast and crew, and especially HBO, for daring to pick up a project no other studio dared touch because it was deemed “too gay.”
