They say the Golden Globes awards show is the place where almost everything is possible, because, while of significant value for the industry, it’s lighter in tone. It wouldn’t be hard to imagine seeing the always exquisite Cate Blanchett getting up on stage tipsy.

Or so she would have us believe.

Cate won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture, Drama, for her role in “Blue Jasmine,” directed by Woody Allen, and in her acceptance speech she thanked her agent for providing her with plenty of booze throughout the night.

You can see her speech in the video above.

“Thank you to my agent for plying me with vodka in the same way that Judy Garland was probably plied with barbiturates,” she said towards the end of her speech, mentioning vodka for the second time in the space of a couple of minutes.

She’s referring, of course, to the famous Hollywood icon Judy Garland, who died of an overdose of barbiturates in 1969.
