This year’s recipient of the Cecil B DeMille award at the Golden Globes was Woody Allen, who was thus honored for his achievements in writing, producing, and directing in film. However, not everyone was happy with his win.

Allen, who was among the favorites of the night thanks to his movie “Blue Jasmine,” which eventually saw Cate Blanchett take home the award for Best Actress, Drama, could not attend the gala because of a previous engagement.

He also admitted in a recent interview that he found such awards shows a bit “silly” and that he made a point of avoiding them whenever he could, so this might be the real reason he wasn’t there.

Regardless of that, the award was accepted in his name by Diane Keaton, a longtime friend who has worked with Allen in the past. She spoke beautifully about Allen, the man and the filmmaker but, while this was happening, his ex-wife Mia Farrow and his son Ronan Farrow had anything but nice things to say on Twitter.

As Allen was announced as the recipient, Mia, who had been live-tweeting the awards, wrote simply, “Time to grab some icecream & switch over to #GIRLS. Nite all.”

Her son Ronan was more direct in voicing his disgust at seeing such a man as Allen honored, even if he does excellent work in film. “Missed the Woody Allen tribute - did they put the part where a woman publicly confirmed he molested her at age 7 before or after Annie Hall?” he wrote.

Mia and Woody’s marriage fell apart when it emerged that he had been sleeping with her adopted daughter from another relationship, who is now actually Woody’s wife.

One damning piece in Vanity Fair had Dylan, another girl Mia had adopted, allege that Woody had abused her when she was still a child, and the accusations were never properly dispersed. Mia has never spoken to him since this came out, and her entire family is supporting her in her decision.

On stage, Keaton praised the director for the magical way he has to bring women to life on the big screen.

“Woody's films have been changing the way we think about life, love and the pursuit of neuroses forever. Woody's women can't be compartmentalized. I mean, they struggle, they love, they fall apart, they dominate, they're funny, they're flawed,” she said.

“They are, in fact, the hallmark of Woody's work. But what's even more remarkable is that absolutely nothing links these unforgettable characters except from the fact that they came from the mind of Woody Allen. And there you have it,” the actress added.
