2012 is proving to be an amazing and packed year for Madonna. Not only is she getting ready for awards season with “W.E.,” her latest directorial effort, but she's also reaping the fruits of her labor as a singer.

At last night's Golden Globes 2012, the singer took home the award for Best Original Song for “Masterpiece,” which she wrote specifically with the film in mind.

In winning, her long-standing feud with British singer Sir Elton John became even more bitter, the Daily Mail reports.

Admittedly, the feud was brought into the spotlight again when a reporter asked John whether he believed Madonna had any chance of winning the award for which he was also nominated.

“Madonna doesn't have a [expletive-]ing chance of winning tonight,” the singer said, without a trace of doubt in his voice.

Asked whether “those were fighting words?,” Sir Elton John replied bluntly, “No, those are accurate words.”

The Mail says reporters caught up with Madonna afterwards – but before she won the award, thus beating Sir Elton –, and she was understandably not pleased with his comments.

“Was he wearing a dress?” she said when the reporter informed her John had just passed by.

“May the best man win,” Madonna reportedly answered when she was told John's comment on her chances of winning.

As it turns out, the “best man” did win. As the video below will confirm, Madonna won for “Masterpiece,” a song of which she said she didn't even want to write because she wanted audiences to focus on her film and not her music for a change.

“I would also like to thank my manager, Guy Oseary, who I spend most of my time beating up on. But seriously, he harangued me for the entire time I was filming and editing my movie to write a song,” Madonna said of the one person who actually managed to convince her to come out with a song in support of the film.

“So then I finished the film and I started making my record and somehow magically and miraculously the song emerged, 'Masterpiece,' so thank you, Guy Oseary, for being so irritating,” she added.
