Last night at the 2011 Golden Globe Awards, the red carpet ceremony was as impressive as ever. The stylish ladies walked down the red carpet into the Beverly Hilton Hotel in LA, looking like fabulous goddesses.

The operative word of the night was big, fashion watchers note. While there was a striking lack of low-cut gowns and very little cleavage on display, there were lots of frills and huge bows to make up for it – at least partly.

The predominant colors for the awards ceremony were blue, all shades of green, red, nude and sweet, and, of course, black.

What the ladies lacked in terms of décolletage, they also made up for in jewelry, as most of them went for impressively chunky items that stood out against the designer gowns.

Ladies in Red

Christina Hendricks, Sofia Vergara and January Jones dared show the world that, with enough confidence, one of the most important fashion rules can be broken: never wear red on the red carpet.

Hendricks was among the few to opt for very little jewelry, but that’s mostly because she let her gorgeous figure, fiery red hair and luscious lips do all the work for her.

She wore a Romona Keveza silk gown with an oversized ruffled strap, matched with Chopard earrings and bracelets.

Sofia Vergara who, over the weekend, was complaining on Twitter that she planned on boycotting the Globes because nothing fit her, wore a Vera Wang dress and jewelry by David Webb. As expected, she was stunning.

January Jones was the only risk-taker in this category, donning a revealing Versace gown with cut-outs and a very low-cut neckline. She finished off the look with black pumps and clutch, both by Versace.

Ladies in Black

Black will always be fashionable, that much is a given. If the cut is right and accessorizing is done accordingly, it can even make for a bold and elegant fashion statement – cue to the ladies at the Globes.

Newly single Eva Longoria managed the amazing feat of not tripping on her incredible long train of her Zac Posen gown, while also looking very much like a siren with an enviable waist and hourglass figure.

Olivia Wilde chose something a bit less dramatic than black (chocolate brown) in this fab Marchesa ballgown, but made sure she stood out from the crowd by pairing it with golden Christian Louboutin spiked shoes. A princess – with a twist.

Christina Aguilera chose a Zuhair Murad design that perfectly complimented her curvier body, while the always stylish Halle Berry went for short and sweet in black Nina Ricci and white jewelry.

Pale Colors

White and nude colors were also a hit with the ladies at the Golden Globes 2011. In fact, these delicate shades were the most popular, starting from Natalie Portman’s adorable maternity dress to Nicole Kidman, who literally perfected the art of wearing white and pale pinks throughout the years.

Jennifer Love Hewitt chose white – and actually managed to avoid looking like a lost bride. She wore a Romana Keveza gown with a Jennifer Behr belt, Casadei shoes, a Sang A clutch, and jewelry by Le Vian.

Megan Fox, who usually goes for dramatic colors or designs, played it safe (and very sweet) in a Giorgio Armani Privé grown in pale pink, with an asymmetrical strap adorned with Swarovski crystals.

Also a big fan of jewelry was Jennifer Lopez who, besides a Zuhair Murad gown, also wore Christian Louboutin shoes, a clutch by Swarovski, and no less than $5 million worth of jewelry from Harry Winston.

Michelle Williams was her usually cute (and hippie-like) self in a flowery and summery Valentino strappy gown, while Scarlett Johansson was equally delicate in a heavy Elie Saab creation, matched with Van Cleef and Arpels jewelry.

Nicole Kidman went for a Prada cream gown with sequined embroidery, which perfectly complimented her slender, goddess-like figure. Sandra Bullock debuted new bangs and a Jenny Packham creation, with Jimmy Choos.

Anne Hathaway was the only one to take any serious risks in this category, walking the red carpet in an amber-colored Giorgio Armani Privé cut all the way down her back, and with high shoulder pads.

Green Is Back In

Also a hit with the ladies for the Globes last night was green: the more striking the shade, the bigger the contrast, therefore the better.

Angelina Jolie ditched her trademark black gown for a Swarovski-encrusted design by Atelier Versace, which she paired with Ferragamo shoes, and jewelry by Robert Procop.

“Black Swan” star Mila Kunis was also breathtaking in a Vera Wang gown, matched with Lorraine Schwartz jewelry, a clutch by Judith Leiber and Yves Saint Laurent shoes.

Equally gorgeous was Catherine Zeta Jones, who wore a Monique Lhullier strapless ballgown, which she accessorized with Salvatore Ferragamo black satin shoes and a clutch.
