Ricky Gervais says he wouldn’t want to host the Golden Globes again anyway

Even if the Hollywood Foreign Association Press wanted Ricky Gervais back again on hosting duties for next year’s Golden Globes, he would have none of it: twice is more than enough, he told paparazzi in New York a few hours ago.

After Sunday’s awards ceremony, when Gervais managed to include almost everyone who’s someone in Hollywood in his jokes, he’s definitely the most talked about personality in months.

While the HFPA boss said yesterday that the British comedian crossed the line with some parts of his routine and insiders speculate that his jabs at the organizers were too stingy for him to be asked back again, Gervais is playing it cool.

TMZ paparazzi caught up with him hours ago in NYC and, contrary to what one may expect, he actually said he wouldn’t be interested in doing hosting duties for the Globes even if organizers did ask him back.

As he sees it, two years in a row is more than enough, with or without this year’s controversy.

“Ricky Gervais doesn’t care if he’s ever asked back to host the Golden Globes ... because he’s ‘not gonna do it again anyway’,” TMZ writes after speaking with the man of the hour Gervais.

“A smiling Gervais was weathering the storm in New York this morning – following his super-controversial statements at the awards show – when Ricky told us, ‘I think twice is enough’,” the same e-zine reports.

“After the photog mentioned that Ricky’s fellow comics seem to be standing by the performance – Gervais replied, ‘Well, it’s nice to be loved by your peers... they stick by you’,” TMZ adds.

Comedians are not the only ones to have found Gervais’ routine at the Globes downright hysterical: Robert de Niro seemed to be enjoying all his jokes during the awards ceremony, while Hugh Hefner too came out in his defense, to name just two of the lot.

At the same time, online polls conducted shortly after the awards ceremony revealed that over 70% of all viewers found the jokes and Gervais as host positively brilliant. It’s equally true that the negative reactions were just as strong.

Below is Ricky Gervais’ opening monolog at the 2011 Golden Globes. Watch it and enjoy because, as he puts it, there isn’t going to be another one.
