This version has yet to be officially unveiled

The unconventional BlackBerry Passport hit shelves last month, and from the Canadian’s company reports the smartphone does seems to be pretty popular among fans.

Hopefully, the Passport won’t remain a fans’ affair and many other customers will consider switching from Android, iOS or Windows Phone to BlackBerry, otherwise the smartphone will probably not sell that well.

Speaking of which, BlackBerry confirmed it had sold more than 200,000 Passport units in the first two days, which is very good considering the company hasn’t been able to sell so many smartphones at launch for quite a long time.

The good news is the Passport was sold out in most shops where it was stocked and the BlackBerry’s webstore already had to restock it a few times.

Obviously, there’s no telling how good the Passport is selling until BlackBerry announces some numbers. The Canadian company hopes to sell a few millions Passports in the coming months, so it can sustain the launch of another innovative smartphone early next year.

According to BlackBerry’s CEO John Chen, a new “unconventional” smartphone will be unveiled in February 2015, at Mobile World Congress (MWC) trade fair in Barcelona, Spain.

Until then though, BlackBerry fans may give the Passport a try, as the smartphone is now available in black color, and very soon in white as well.

However, the folks over at CrackBerry have just been tipped on a special gold BlackBerry Passport that’s not yet available on the market. The BlackBerry Passport in gold looks gorgeous, which is why we hope the Canadian company will launch it sooner rather than later.

We can safely assume that aside from the different color the gold BlackBerry Passport will be similar to other black and white versions of the smartphone.

A Premium BlackBerry Passport may be announced as well

This is not the first time we hear about a gold BlackBerry Passport variant, but it’s the first time we’re seeing this piano black and gold version.

Previous rumors pointed to a possible white and gold BlackBerry Passport model, which might hit shelves later this year.

In addition, BlackBerry is also rumored to release a premium version of the Passport. This particular model would be more expensive due to materials used to manufacture it, such as leather or glass weave for the back, instead of the rubberized plastic that made it into the standard version.

Unfortunately, there’s no telling when exactly these BlackBerry Passport models will be made official, but we suspect they might be cut completely from the roadmap if the standard version doesn’t sell well.
