No plans for such a title

Hollywood and the gaming industry have collaborated for quite some time now, with movies basing their ideas on video games or titles telling a much more interactive story of films appearing.

The latest in the latter category was Electronic Arts' Godfather 2, which promised to take the pretty interesting experience from the first one and give players greater opportunities and a more organized look on their crime rings. But the title didn't really manage to sell a lot of copies, making both Electronic Arts and the owner of the rights for the franchise, Paramount, quite sad.

Speaking about the fate of the Godfather franchise, EA Games label President Frank Gibeau explained that a third installment wouldn't be made and that the company finished with the franchise. “We're not going to do another one,” Gibeau said, and then denied the presence of any more Godfather games in development.

After that statement, a follow-up release from a representative cleared things up and revealed that, “We do not currently have a Godfather game in development. Nothing has been decided as to future sequels. Paramount is a great partner.”

So, while there are currently no more mafia-inspired titles underway at EA, who knows what the future might hold for those who want to practice their mob skills in the virtual world. Hopefully, we will know more about this franchise in the near future from EA.

Has the Godfather series of video games attracted you? Did the first or the second make you a true fan, or did they leave the impression that they were just retro Grand Theft Auto clones that just wanted to focus more on the organized part of crime than on the overall fun factor of open-world sandbox titles?
