When it comes in 2010

Sony is betting big on God of War III. We've recently seen one concept art image showing off a fire Titan that Kratos is set to ride into battle against the Gods of Mount Olympus. It reveals the scale for which the game aims and sets a high bar for the official release that should take place, if the rules for the series are obeyed, in March 2010.

Data from one analyst shows that the release of the game will lead to a big bump in the sales of the PlayStation 3 gaming consoles.

Nick William is an analyst for the firm OTX and he wrote an article for Gamasutra saying that, if his data is to be believed, one third of those who are thinking of getting God of War III do not yet own a PlayStation 3. This means that the gaming platform will register a big increase in sales, probably beginning sometime in the fall and culminating in March 2010.

Still, the increase is not a sure thing. Williams thinks that “The price point for the PS3 remains a real problem for Sony. Sony execs now find themselves in the precarious position of trying to balance consumer price expectations with the high costs of producing each PS3.”

God of War III can only work as a must get title if the price of the PS3 is “in the same ballpark” as that of the Xbox 360 and the Nintendo Wii. This basically means that Sony should take 100 dollars off the price of all the versions of the PS3.

Williams believes that Microsoft needs to beef up the Xbox Live in order to attract more gamers to the Xbox 360. The fact that the console is currently posting better numbers than the PS3 might not last if Microsoft doesn't manage to make purchasing titles on Xbox Live more attractive than going to the local store.
