GoPro releases its newest set of cameras ahead schedule

Ok, so we were expecting the new GoPro cameras to become official on October 8, but the good news is that we don’t have to wait anymore.

GoPro went ahead and pulled the wraps off three new portable action sports cameras you can attach to your helmet, bicycle or even your pooch.

Most of these new products’ specifications have been already revealed, but we don’t mind telling you about them yet again.

So today GoPro is unleashing three new models coming in the form of a Black one (which is the top dog in this family), Silver one and an entry-level one which is called simply the Hero.

Anyway, let’s take each one of them and see what’s what.

GoPro HERO4 Black

The Black models brings forth something GoPro fans have been craving for ever since the Hero3, meaning 4K video recording at 30fps and 1080p at 120 fps. As you might remember, the Hero3+ could only muster 4K at 15fps.

Of course, you can still grab video at 2.7K at 50fps, 1440p at 80fps, 960p at 120fps and 720p at 120fps. One mention here, however, the camera does not bring about 240fps mode.

Another new feature coming with the Black edition is the “highlighting tag” which allows users to highlight a particular moment using the Wi-Fi button on the side.

As we have previously told you, the new GoPro HERO4 now adds manual control over ISO limit, color and exposure settings. Which will come in handy for fans of low-light shooting.

Speaking of which, GoPro has two new modes up called Night Lapse and Night Photo, which are to be used to capture better low-light time lapses/stills.

The new Black model is also said to arrive with twice the dynamic range compared to the previous generation.

Also worth noting is the new Bluetooth and Wi-Fi features plus the improved battery housing. Overall battery life is supposed to be the same as with previous generations, but given the fact that you can now shoot 4K at 30fps, we shouldn't complain.

HERO4 Silver

The Silver model is basically the same model as the Black one. However, the shooter is able to capture 4K video only in 15fps just like the HERO3/3+.

However, it does come with a perk of its own – a built-in touchscreen display, which is certainly something a lot of folks will appreciate.

The Silver and Black models can work in concert with the GoPro app that allows for a preview, playback and sharing of best images and videos via Facebook and Twitter.

The “simple” HERO

If 4K video shooting or a touchscreen is not something you need, GoPro has your back covered too. Say hello to the HERO camera capable of shooting 1080p at 30 fps and 720p at 60fps.

The camera has an integrated waterproof coating and the battery is built-in too. How much will this little fellow cost you? Well, the HERO can be yours for just $130 / €102, while the Silver model will sell for $399 / €314 and the Black for $499 / €393 starting October 5.
