The freeware mail service powered by Google continuously attracts people because most of the features bundled into its offering are making it one of the top solutions on the market. Although it didn't mention a thing about it, the Mountain View company made a minor step to attract even more users by modifying the sign-up button and making it more user friendly. "I want my Gmail", 'Start Fresh", or "Pick a name" the button now reads.

The mail solution offered by Google has an interesting history because it was first released on April 1, 2004 as a private beta, being described as the solution that offers the largest storage size at that time. Gmail evolved a lot and it is now described as the most secure email service on the Internet because it includes very powerful filters able to block most of the unwanted email messages coming into your inbox. At this time, it offers approximately 2874 (and counting) megabytes but the Mountain View company has some interesting plans for Gmail.

Some time ago, the folks from Yahoo, the owner of Yahoo Mail (one of the Gmail rivals), announced the mail service will offer infinite storage capacity to all the users. Because this was an obvious move meant to crush Gmail's storage size, the Google employees joked a little bit and said the Google Mail will include unlimited size plus one, just to be over Yahoo Mail.

At this time, Gmail is more than a simple mail solution because the parent company implemented Mail Fetcher, an interesting feature that turns Gmail into a web-based POP3 client. The function allows you to retrieve messages from up to 5 accounts straight into the interface of the Google mail service.

On February 7, 2007 Google decided to upgrade Gmail and made it available for all the users, allowing anybody to register for a free account in a matter of seconds.
