A rather predictable move

The Google webmail service has added new features to its already generous portfolio.

The latest Gmail offer, called "Web Clips", lets users display links to various types of Web content, such as news articles and blog entries. The exact features are described in information posted by the search engine on the 'What's New' section of the Gmail Web site.

The features shows content from any subscribed RSS or Atom feed and Google can also place relevant sponsored links at this new section in Gmail. Users have the possibility to input any specific RSS URL in their settings menu to activate this feature. This is still a feature that is going through a testing phase and should be made available soon.

This new addition to the Gmail service comes as no big surprise, since last week, Yahoo integrated an RSS reader into the new version of its Yahoo Mail Web Web mail service.

Another new feature Gmail is offering is the capability to detect addresses and shipment tracking numbers in the text of e-mail messages. Gmail highlights these items and users can map the address and get driving directions, and check on the shipment's delivery status.
