One of the biggest names in smartphone and tablet gaming, Glu Mobile Inc. has announced the new Men vs. Machines game for iPhone, iPod touch and iPad.

The studio touts killer 3D visuals and breathtaking steampunk-style artwork, encouraging gamers to embark on a retro journey to fight for survival in a revolution against the robot army G.E.A.R.

“The year is 240AD, but it's an era that we never knew existed,” reads the plot. “Here you must FIGHT FOR SURVIVAL in a revolution against the vicious robot army G.E.A.R, under the command of the evil dictator Eisenberg.”

Equipped with mechanically-powered weapons, players must defeat the machines to secure humanity's survival.

"We know that both hardcore and casual gamers want the ability to play games with their friends," said Giancarlo Mori, chief creative officer at Glu.

According to Mori, "Along with state-of-the-art 3D graphics and gameplay, Men vs. Machines brings a dynamic social experience to mobile gaming."

As such, players can add their Game Center and Facebook friends' characters to their alliance and have fellow rebels help destroy the oppressive machines, as well as offer their protection, when needed.

As for the weapons, they’re said to be “from another place and time,” which also justifies the industrial setting with its Steampunk graphics.

“Choose from an array of insane mechanical-powered weaponry and customize your character with uniquely imaginative armor,” says the key-feature list.

Unimaginably available as a free download from the iTunes App Store, Men vs. Machines has been designed to work on all iOS screens, including the 9.7-inch display of the iPad.

The game also works on iPhones and iPod touches. Glu doesn’t specify which models, but since the game requires an iOS version no fresher than 3.0, we’re inclined to believe all models starting with iPhone 3G and iPod touch 2G are supported.
