Just As Beautiful has been catering for the real-size and plus-size community since January 2007. Now, it’s also available in the UK and it promises to put only “real” women in it, while also completely ignoring dieting tips.

This is yet another magazine that is trying to turn its back on the size 0 trend by embracing women who have curves – and are not ashamed of it.

The models featured in the magazine, the Daily Mail says, are all considered plus-size by the industry – and they’re all here to tell the average women that size is only a matter of perspective.

The purpose of Just As Beautiful is not to glamorize being overweight but rather to embrace those sizes that are considered “not ok” by mainstream fashion.

Because the magazine is trying to tell women that it’s ok not to be stick thin, it will not run any dieting tips or stories of the kind we see in all glossies, about women losing a lot of weight and boasting about it.

“We want our readers to know that they don’t need to change their appearance to ‘fit in’ or be truly happy,” the magazine’s editor, Sue Thomason, says for the Mail.

“Most people only think they need to change because they’re constantly exposed to the message that they do – and shown images of impossibly skinny models that they’re told they ‘should’ look like,” Thomason explains.

Because real women need a magazine that they can relate to and that carries stories about women just like them, the idea for Just As Beautiful was born.

In other words, Just As Beautiful aims to do the exact opposite of all glamour magazines out there, revolutionizing the industry.

“Appearance needs to be rethought and placed firmly back where it belongs – in the entertainment section of your life, along with fashion and make-up,” the editor further says.

“If you feel anxious about your looks instead of being relaxed, it’s a sure sign that you need to change your mind and not your body,” Thomason says.

So, average- and plus-size women from all around the world feeling insecure about their looks can breathe easy: not only do they have now a publication that helps them with this, but they also have the support of an entire community to rely on.
