Globalfoundries announced recently that it had appointed Daniel Durn to the position of Chief Financial Officer for the company while also assigning two other senior executives to key positions.

Durn has replaced Robert Krakauer as CFO since Krakauer is reported to be leaving Globalfoundries in order to pursue other interests, according to the press release published by the foundry.

In addition to Durn, Greg Bartlett, formerly Globalfoundries' senior vice president of technology and R&D, was promoted to the role of CTO, while KC Ang, formerly vice president of the firm's 300-mm foundry operations, was named head of customer engineering and quality.

The appointments come less than a month after Globalfoundries confirmed Ajit Manocha as the company’s Chief Executive Officer and just a week after it was reported that AMD’s decision to cancel the Wichita and Khrishna APUs was due to the troubles faced by the foundry with its 28-nm process technology.

According to some reports, rather than expecting for GloFlo to get these issues sorted, AMD preferred to start out fresh with the 28nm gate-last HKMG process from rival TSMC.

As expected, Globalfoundries’ press release doesn’t mention anything about these rumors and motivates these changes in the company’s leadership as an effort to meet the needs of its customers.

“Our customers want us to be the preferred choice for them, so we are taking a hard look at our structure to ensure we are organized to meet their needs,” said Ajit Manocha, Chief Executive Officer of Globalfoundries.

“As we continue to put in place world-class talent to drive our performance, we want to make sure our technology strategy and market opportunity are working in parallel with our execution,” concluded the company’s rep.

Before being appointed as CFO, Daniel Durn served as an executive at the firm's parent company (ATIC) and prior to that held positions as an investment banker and a member of the Merger Leadership Group at Goldman Sachs.
