Globalfoundries has recently issued a press release to inform us that Ajit Manocha, who has served as interim CEO of the foundry since June, has now been appointed to the job on a permanent basis starting immediately.

Ajit Manocha is a veteran semiconductor industry executive with more than 30 years of global expertise in operations, general management, and manufacturing.

Until recently he has served as an advisor for ATIC and was previously Executive Vice President of Worldwide Operations at Spansion as well as Executive Vice President and Chief Manufacturing Officer at NXP (formerly Philips Semiconductors).

He also held management positions at AT&T Microelectronics and AT&T Bell Laboratories, where Manocha started its career as a research scientist and was granted more than a dozen U.S. and international patents for several inventions in the field of microelectronics.

In its role as CEO, Mocha will concentrate on accelerating moment for Globalfoundries, which had a a lot of problems lately with its 32nm fabrication process that suffers from low yield rates.

"I am looking forward to accelerating the momentum our 12,000 employees have created the last four months," said Ajit Manocha.

"I have been a part of the vision of this organization since its inception three years ago and am eager to continue to drive the company forward.

“Given the demand from our customers, our strong global assets and our committed investor with its long-term perspective, we'll strive for market leadership in the semiconductor foundry industry," concluded the foundry's new CEO.

AMD, one of the most important clients of Globalfoundries which relies on the company to build its 32nm and 45nm APUs and processors, has lately become more vocal when it comes to manifesting its disappointment in Globalfoundries' performance as the low 32nm yields stopped it from reaching its Q3 financial targets.
