During the first three months of 2013, things didn't look up at all

The first three months of the year are always slow in terms of product sales, since everyone and everything is “resting” after the winter holidays.

Thus, it comes as no surprise that shipments, on an OEM basis, for LCD monitors slipped by 14% on year. I'm actually surprised it wasn't more.

For those who want the exact number, 33.1 million LCD monitors were shipped globally.

That's less than the LCD TV figure of 45 million, which actually showed an increase of 4.1%.

The slump in sales is indicative of both the slow season, as I have already noted, and a general slowdown on the desktop PC market.

Fewer new PCs sold mean fewer monitors, and there hasn't been a very big quality leap on that segment for some time, unlike in the TV industry.
