More and more female gamers are reported in Australia. In 2005, 38 percent of the gaming community was female and the last survey made by Interactive Entertainment Association of Australia (IEAA) in association with Bond University's Centre for New Media Research, revealed that at the present time, women gamers have reached 41 percent of the gaming community in Australia.

They also predict that by 2012, the dominant sex in the gamer community will be female and it's not so far fetched as they are in fact the dominant sex on the planet and growing. Brand stated: "The fact of the matter is that today computer games are for adults, and women represent the fastest growing single demographic for gameplay. In five or six years, we'll see that the average gamer is female."

Australians are pretty fond of home entertainment systems, as the same research centre revealed that 79 percent of the whole population have at least one gaming system. Some are proud owners of up to four gaming households. What on earth do they do with them? Do they collect them or something?

The PS2 seems to be the most popular followed by the Xbox (old version). After making a pretty good idea of what the Australian gaming community is all about, the guys at Bond University's Centre for New Media Research also wanted to set a few statistics on how people provided their games. It seems that piracy is a common fact in Australia and most gamers admit to have played pirated games, whether it was over at a friend's house, or even at their own. Some even admitted they've downloaded one or more pirated games.
