“The Girl with the Dragon Tattoo” has not even opened in all territories, but talk of a sequel is already picking up speed. In a recent press call, director David Fincher has confirmed that two more films will be made.

Starring Daniel Craig and Rooney Mara, the film is a remake of the Swedish one of the same name, which, in turn, was based on Stieg Larsson's “Millennium” trilogy.

It's getting a lot of buzz mostly because of the popularity of Larsson's novels, but having Fincher at the helm is also helping a lot with it. There's even some Oscar buzz about it.

In a recent press call, Fincher was asked if there were any plans to adapt Larsson's two other novels for the big screen, Collider informs.

Not only are such plans in place, but Fincher also believes they will be shooting the films back to back.

“The second two books are very much one story and it doesn’t seem prudent to me to go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year. Put out the second one. Go to Sweden for a year. Come back for a year,” the famed director said, when asked whether the two movies would shoot simultaneously.

“I don’t think Rooney wants to be doing this four years from now. So I think that would be crazy especially given the sense that it’s really one story that’s kind of bifurcated in the middle,” he added.

Collider also spoke to Steve Zaillian, the screenwriter for the first film, and has learned that, while it takes about 6 months to come up with the first draft, he is confident that he will be able to write both scripts in due time.

The movie-oriented e-zine even ventures a guess about when fans will be able to see the first of the two movies on the silver screen – and it's a rather long wait.

“Zaillian told me that it takes him around six months to get a first draft ready so I’d imagine the sequels to Dragon Tattoo wouldn’t be in front of cameras until late 2012. That would mean the earliest Sony could release The Girl Who Played With Fire would be this time in 2013,” Collider writes.
