Doctors were able to save a little girl suffering from one of the most serious documented cases of hydrocephalus, making her head twice the normal size.

15-month-old Roona Begum from India could have lost her life after fluid built up inside her skull, leading to swelling.

According to the Daily Mail, doctors concluded that her body weight was made up in half by the weight of her head, prior to the surgery.

She has successfully undergone surgery and doctors offered up their services for free. The procedure was possible by means of donations.

Abdul Rahman, the child's father, only earns £1.79 ($2.72 / €2.11) per day working in a brick factory near Jirania, in Tripura state.

The circumference of her head has now been reduced from 94 cm (37 inches) to 67 cm (26 inches), roonabegum.org documents. Part of the fluid has been drained out, but more procedures will follow.
