The first romantic scene in the game - Witcher's getting some after 5 years of warming the bench

Anyone who's given The Witcher a go has surely seen at least one sex related scene, cinematic etc. It's not just The Witcher that features these kinds of scenes, but many other games as well. Every once in a while, though, so-called girl gamers make entries on blogs and stuff, showing their total discontent towards the concept of woman=sex. Who said that anyway...? But as it turns out, some girl gamers actually dig the idea of sex and other Mature content within video games. That's the case of Rosethorn.

Rosethorn has this great piece up on IGN's Vault Network, mentioning the sexy scenes (and other stuff that had The Witcher shipping to retailers with a big fat M stamped on it) as positive elements within a game meant for the mature audience in the first place. Intelligently titled "M is for Mature and Me", here are some excerpts of Rosethorn's thoughts on this ever-burning issue:

"I'm an adult. I like mature themes. The movies I watch are rated R. I read Laurell K. Hamilton and Jacqueline Carey. I love Dexter. I'm a person who appreciates dark and adult themes and it's about time we start seeing them more frequently in good games! Of course, this opens up the sensitive topic of 'aren't games just for kids?' The gamers' average age is going up every year, and the answer to this is NO! In fact, according to The ESA, the average gamer is 33 years old and has been playing games for 12 years. That doesn't mean there isn't a market for kids' games, there's a huge market for Nintendo and Toontown, and that's who those games are made for. But there's just as big a market for the games with the more adult themes and I want to see more games tackle these themes without fear of the ERSB rating killing their sales or politicians putting their game on a platform for anti-gaming legislation. [...]

The Witcher is what I hope is just the beginning of quality M rated games that aren't just violence, but contain more of the mature themes we adults find entertaining. Rosethorn out and adult."

Sublime, just sublime! How is it that there are so few open-minded girl gamers out there...? There you go people: finally, a normal person, which happens to be a girl and a gamer at the same time, proves in a page of thoughts just what it means to simply be in touch with yourself, to be subjective only when it's necessary etcetera, etcetera. A good lesson for many frustrated people out there ?if you ask me.
