We’ve been telling you that the Chinese company Gionee plans to unveil a new high-end Android smartphone called the Elife E8 on June 10.

But while we wait for Gionee to make the official announcement, we’ve learned that the phone has already been unveiled as the Allview X2 Xtreme in Romania (as seen at GSM Dome).

Allview is a local company that introduces Chinese hardware products in the country, and apparently, it leaped ahead of the mother brand this time and introduced the phone a little ahead of schedule.

This means the Allview X2 Xtreme is the same phone as the Gionee Elife E8, but it just has another manufacturer’s name plastered on it.

Meet the Gionee Elife E8

Like we’ve been anticipated, the new phone is pretty beastly in terms of specifications. It includes a spacious 6-inch display with 1440 x 2560 pixel resolution (2K panel) and a 64-bit MediaTek MT6795 SoC clocked at 2GHz with IMG G620 GPU(Helio X10), plus 3GB of RAM and 32GB of internal storage. There is no mention of microSD card slot availability yet.

In the imaging department, the phone doesn’t disappoint either. Those buying the Allview X2 Xtreme will find that the device boasts a capable 23MP rear camera with 4K shooting capabilities and a very capable 8MP selfie shooter.

A fingerprint scanner lives on the back of the unit, which is kept alive and breathing by a 3,500 mAh battery.

The phone isn’t the thinnest we have seen around, but it’s not extremely chunky either, boasting a profile of 9.6 mm / 0.37 inches.

The Gionee Elife E8 / Allview X2 Xtreme arrives with Android 5.0 Lollipop out of the box. Given the specifications we have just detailed for you, the phone won’t come with an affordable price tag. So in Romania, customers will be able to pick the Allview X2 Xtreme up for $554 / €490.

It remains to be seen if consumers will be willing to pay this amount of money for this device, considering that for the same price, they could be getting a phone from well-established brands like Samsung or LG.

The new Allview model will start shipping in Romania on August 15. We’re also going to keep an eye on Gionee, which should make its version available later today as well.
