One week after Samsung Romania announced that some several Galaxy family smartphones will receive major software upgrades, the Korean handset manufacturer has decided to postpone them.

Gingerbread for Galaxy S and Froyo for Galaxy i5500 and i5800 have been delayed for an unannounced date via Twitter.

Invoking founded reasons, Samsung Romania stated that they are trying to make the updates available soon and that a future release date will be announced via its official blog.

An Android 2.2.1 software update was originally slated for a March 20th release for all three smartphones, while the Gingerbread update for Galaxy S should have been available by the end of the month.

It seems that all updates have been pushed back several weeks, which doesn't come as a surprise from Samsung, a company known for not following its software update schedule too closely.

Also, in line with the latest international rumors, Samsung Romania confirmed that Galaxy Tab will receive Gingerbread, but mentioned that its availability has been delayed as well.

Apparently, the updates won't be available OTA (over the air). Instead, Galaxy S owners will have to use Samsung's Kies syncing software.

So far, this is the first delay of the upgrade officially announced by Samsung, but it won't be unusual for the manufacturer to postpone it until after the Galaxy S 2 becomes available in Romania, in May.

The delay is unfortunate for Galaxy S users, who reported that their devices have become almost unusable because of the faulty software and were expecting for the update to correct the bugs, as well as the low performance.

The announcement will probably increase the number of users who prefer to root their Galaxy family smartphones because of the better software and improved performance.

Stay tuned for more updates on the subject, as Samsung discloses further details about the upcoming Gingerbread and Froyo software updates availability in Romania.
