14 DAY TRIAL // Android 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich is starting to appear on more devices out here, the latest data from Google shows.
There are not too many devices available with the new platform release on board at the moment, but it appears that their owners are fond of accessing the Android Market quite often.
According to Google, data collected during the two weeks ended March 5th, shows that 1.6 percent of all devices that accessed the Android Market were running under Ice Cream Sandwich.
0.4 percent of all active Android devices out there run under Android 4.0 - Android 4.0.2, while 1.2 percent of them run under Android 4.0.3.
Ice Cream Sandwich brings along a wide range of enhancements when compared to previous platform releases, but it still has a long way to go before it tops the Android platform distribution charts.
Many of the currently running Gingerbread and Honeycomb devices will get a taste of Ice Cream Sandwich, but a lot of them will remain loaded with the same OS flavor they run at the moment.
For now, Gingerbread is loaded on 62 percent of all active Android devices on the market. Android 2.3 - Android 2.3.2 are loaded on 0.5 percent of all devices, while Android 2.3.3 - Android 2.3.7 are present on 61.5 percent of active devices.
As for Honeycomb, Google’s data shows that 0.1 percent of all active Android devices out there run under Android 3.0, that 1.1 percent of them run Android 3.1, and that 2.1 percent devices have been loaded with Android 3.2.
Google’s distribution charts also show that Android 2.2 Froyo is loaded on 25.3 percent of all handsets out there, while Android 2.1 Éclair runs on 6.6 percent devices.
The much older and almost obsolete Android 1.6 Donut and Android 1.5 Cupcake are loaded on 0.8 percent and 0.4 percent of all active Android devices accessing the Market during the past two weeks.
