One of the software updates that the owners of T-Mobile G2x handsets have been eagerly waiting for was the Android 2.3 Gingerbread platform upgrade, now rolling out on their devices through LG's own desktop update tool. It is not the over-the-air software update that users might have been expecting to receive, but it still brings the latest OS version to G2x devices, that's for sure.

The software update is available for download now via the LG Mobile Support Tool, which can be downloaded from Softpedia as well, via this link.

Featuring build number GRI40, the new software update weighs in at 178 MB and will deliver the Android 2.3.3 OS version on T-Mobile's handset, it seems.

To download and install the new update, users will need to connect their devices to a desktop computer, and then fire up the LG Mobile Support Tool application.

For the time being, nothing is officially announced on the matter, but it seems that many users have already managed to download and install the new software update.

Apparently, the only thing that T-Mobile confirmed was that they are currently trialing the update with their employees.

“T-Mobile is working with LG to deliver a software update to Android 2.3 (Gingerbread) for the G2x, which we expect will deliver some performance enhancements. We are currently trialing this update with a pilot group of T-Mobile employees,” the wireless carrier reportedly stated.

Only a few days ago, the wireless carrier confirmed that it planned on starting the update process for T-Mobile G2x “by summer,” but did not offer a specific release date for it.

However, it seems that the owners of this handset got lucky a little earlier than expected, and that the update was already made available for download for them, although it might not remain there for long.

Most probably, an official announcement on this will emerge soon, so keep an eye on this space to learn more on it.
