It’s been 8 years since “Gilmore Girls” ended its run on ABC, and during this time, fans have not lost hope of seeing the two charming leads and all the other charming supporting acts together again for one more time.

A movie was supposed to happen at some point, as Lauren Graham revealed in 2009, but plans fell through because they couldn’t get everyone on board. Obviously, it made no sense to make a feature film if not everyone from the original series was involved.

Things are looking up in this sense. The cast was reunited at ATX Television Festival in Austin, Texas, over the weekend, on the occasion of the show’s 15th year anniversary and debut on Netflix, and they sat down for a chat with The Today show, expressing their willingness to appear in a movie.

You can see the interview below.

“There’s nothing standing in our way, there’s for sure willingness,” Graham said. Scott Patterson added that, if the movie was being made, he was definitely “in” as well, while the others nodded in approval.

The cast was joined at the event and the NBC interview by series creator Amy Sherman-Palladino.

“Gilmore Girls” aired for 7 years and was a hit throughout. However, Graham has made no secret of how much she and other castmembers hated the ending because it was rushed and not in line with the rest of the show, having been a direction imposed by network bosses.

She also never stopped campaigning publicly for the feature film, saying that it would offer longtime fans the conclusion they deserved for their years-long loyalty.

With Hollywood taking more interest than ever today in classic shows and movies, this would be the best chance to get a “Gilmore Girls” movie off the ground. The only condition would probably be that they made a movie to bring closure to the series and help fans reconnect with the characters, and not some sort of cheap reboot.
