Users want bigger tiles on the Windows 10 Start screen

Microsoft has revamped both the Start menu and the Start screen in Windows 10, but users expect this series of improvements to continue until the operating system reaches RTM, and a new post on UserVoice calls for the company to introduce a new live tile size for the Start screen.

A detailed user request that already has more than 800 votes explains that an extra-large size for the Start screen live tiles is needed not only for improvements in terms of looks but also because it could make the Start screen better fit bigger displays and make the OS better for more devices than PCs, tablets, and smartphones.

Basically, the new extra-large tile would be a 3x2 medium tile, the user post explains, so it would perfectly fit the Start screen without affecting the overall layout in any way.

User designs that are included in the suggestions better explain this new idea, and at first glance, they really seem to look good on bigger screens.

Interactive live tiles anyone?

Microsoft is already considering some new live tile sizes, and at the same time, the company is also experimenting with a completely new idea called interactive live tiles, which would allow users to perform some actions without the need to open the apps themselves.

Listening to music, for instance, would be greatly enhanced with interactive tiles because this way users can pause, stop or adjust volume using the live tile and without launching the music app.

Up until now, Microsoft hasn’t revealed whether or not interactive live tiles will arrive in Windows 10, but it’s believed that the company is pondering this possibility for Windows 10 Mobile, the smartphone version of the new operating system that’s set to arrive in late 2015, a few months after the PC sibling because of additional work being required.
