It seems that the ongoing competition between Asus and Gigabyte is about to move to a whole new level, as the latter has revealed the fact that it will launch at CES 2011 a brand new line of motherboards that target specifically the extreme gaming segment, thus competing directly with Asus' own ROG (Republic of Gamers) motherboards. Unfortunately, though, very little info has been provided on these future mobos, most of which comes from a leaked poster, presented by TCMagazine. The respective poster only reveals the official name the gaming motherboard will be known by, G1-Killer, while the Extreme Edition logo (you'll have to squint real hard in order to see it, but trust us, it's there) means that this thing will support LGA 1366 chips from Intel. And since this component has been specifically designed in order to go against the ROG, it's very likely that it will pack quite a lot of advanced features, meant to provide gamers with multiple hardware options, such as multi-GPUs. We're also probably going to see some new, advanced cooling solutions, high-frequency memory support and some nifty overclocking features, that hardware enthusiasts and extreme gamers will certainly appreciate, because, after all, that's the reason they go for the ROG right now. Last, but certainly not least, it's important to mention that the price point for the future G1-Killer gaming motherboard from Gigabyte has been set at around 300 US dollars, which is roughly in the same area as the ROG mobos. Of course, it remains to be seen just how well the gaming community will receive this future motherboard and whether its overall features and specs will actually manage to pose any real danger to the already excellent ROG Crosshair motherboards from Asus, but we'll probably find out more on this topic come January 2011 and CES.
