It is not ready yet, but it soon will be, and high-end graphics cards will get cooler

When we say “cool,” we usually mean one of two things: cool literally (chilly, cold, etc.) and cool as in worthy of approval. Gigabyte is now preparing a product to which both meanings apply.

Said product, as reported by ComputerBase.de website, is a very large and very mighty cooling module for NVIDIA graphics cards.

And not just any NVIDIA graphics adapters, but the two strongest single-GPU models: GeForce GTX 680 and GeForce GTX Titan.

On the GTX 680, the cooler supposedly produces less than 28.3 dB of noise when FurMark benchmark tests are running.

On the GeFrce GTX Titan, it will supposedly allow for higher GPU Boost frequencies, or at least sustains set frequency offsets better.

The cooler itself is a triple-slot beast, making it unlikely for multi-board SLI configurations to be achieved, unless the mainboard and desktop case are particularly huge.

Three copper heatpipes (10mm thick apparently) drag the heat out of the GPU die and send it to the two aluminum heatsinks.

Three fans of 80 mm diameter each then disperse the heat dissipated along the fin stacks.

GIGABYTE strapped the WindForce 450W on to the GeForce GTX TITAN and GTX 680 at its "New Idea Tech Tour" event held in Berlin.

Sadly, there is one big problem that Gigabyte might not be able to get over: NVIDIA hasn't allowed its partners to modify reference design GTX Titan, unless it is for applying liquid-based custom coolers.

Thus, there probably won't be a card already equipped with WindForce 450W. Users will probably have to buy the product and the cooler separately, and make the swap personally.

Unless, of course, by the time Gigabyte has the thing out for sale, NVIDIA has lifted the ban on custom designs, removing the problem altogether. Enthusiasts will just have to hope, we suppose.
