It appears that even in the ocean of Android tablets there are some Windows 7 islands, like a certain product from Gigabyte that has now been listed as available for pre-order, although shipments won't begin until next month.

The past few months saw announcement of both available and soon-to-come slates, many of which use ARM chips and the Android OS.

Then again, there are exceptions, like the HP TouchPad, which runs WebOS, although it looks like said tablet has its own issues.

The other exceptions are what was once the norm, very early in the appearance of the tablet market.

Simply put, Windows 7 tablets are very scarce, particularly because the operating system isn't exactly fit for the device type.

Still, while waiting for Windows 8 to show, companies are seemingly practicing with what they have on hand.

In this instance, it is Gigabyte that has sent out, or is about to send out, a model, dubbed S1080 and powered by the Intel Atom N570 dual-core CPU.

Said central processing unit is backed up by 2 GB of RAM (random access memory) and a hard disk drive whose capacity of 320 GB.

The product was actually previewed a while ago, and it should, by all accounts, have already begun to ship.

Nevertheless, pre-orders can only now be set in the US and will ship in July, for the price of $649, which might make sales a bit troublesome, knowing the prices of around $500 that are the so-called norm at the moment.

For those that want more details, the tablet has Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 3.0, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi, USB 3.0, D-Sub and a 1.3 megapixel webcam, plus a display resolution of 1,024 x 600 pixels. USB 3.0 is also available.
