As it has always happened, virtually all companies that have a stake in the IT industry have spent their time looking for the right moments to enter the spotlight and announce one new invention or another. In the case of hardware makers, there are many opportunities to turn heads, the best of which are the famous expos and electronic shows that occur each year around the world. CeBIT, which takes place in Hanover, Germany, is one of the largest in the world, and companies always do their best to show off as high a collection of completed and “in the works” products and technologies as possible.

Needless to say, Gigabyte had a large exhibition indeed at this year's edition, and some of the things on display have still not made their way to market. Such is the case with the T1000P. This convertible tablet has been in development for months but only now has it become available for pre-order through Amazon.

One might assume that the T1000P is not particularly worthy of praise, since convertible tablets have been selling for years. This model, however, is not just any such product.

Though it is powered by the Pine Trail platform, known for its low performance compared with regular notebooks, the mobile device uses the quite competent Atom N470 CPU, whose core clock is of 1.83GHz. This chip is paired with 1GB of RAM, the GMA 3150 integrated graphics and a hard disk drive of 250GB.

What really makes the convertible intriguing is its display. Not only does it have a native resolution of 1366 x 768 pixels, but it even boasts multi-touch capabilities that greatly enhance its interactivity and functionality. Other specifications include Gigabit Ethernet, a 3.5G module, 802.11 b/g/n WiFi and the Microsoft Windows 7 Starter operating system. Shipments are slated to commence on July 1.
