In the third quarter of 2013, the company may catch a break

The first two quarters of 2013 weren't exactly bountiful in terms of product shipments, especially on the desktop PC market.

That's why the increase in motherboard shipments during Q3 2013 will be more a reflection of how bad things were before, instead of how good things are about to get.

Nevertheless, an increase is always good news, which is probably why Gigabyte let its expectations leak in the first place.

Company Vice President Alexander Ma reportedly said that Gigabyte would ship 15% more mainboards in the third quarter of 2013 than it did in the second quarter.

That a competitor had major design flaws in its motherboards and gave Gigabyte the chance to sell its own products earlier definitely helps.

After shipping 10 million motherboards during the first half of the year, Gigabyte has its work cut out for it if it is to exceed the 20 million mark by the end of the year.
