In an effort to accelerate the adoption of the ultra-thin and ultraportable laptops, Intel and two Taiwan-based motherboard and notebook makers have recently launched a number of white-box notebooks. According to available details, the Intel Montevina-based notebooks have been designed for regional brand vendors around the world. In addition to the Taiwan-based Gigabyte and ECS, Intel has also joined hands with Singapore-based EMS firm Flextronics.

According to market sources, cited in a recent news-article on Digitimes, Gigabyte, ECS and Flextronics have recently launched a number of white-box Intel-based notebook platforms. These new laptops include a 13.3-inch mode, dubbed Bianca and a 13.3-inch model, dubbed Peggy's Cove, both of which have been designed by Gigabyte and include 3G support. In addition, Flextronics has designed a 15.4-inch version of Peggy's Cove, while ECS has also built a 13.3-inch CULV-based ultra-thin notebook, dubbed Conte.

Digitimes also reports that an 8.9-inch white-box netbook, designed by Amtek and dubbed Elego, has also been launched, as part of a program to accelerate the adoption of Intel-based portable computer systems. The launch of these systems is part of an initiative led by Intel and meant to provide second-tier OEM notebook makers with design support for their upcoming portable PCs. These notebooks should be launched in various regions worldwide, although the exact details of the places where they will be made available are unknown at this time.

These new notebooks should provide computer users with an alternative to the successful market for netbook systems, featuring an ultraportable design and the performance of Intel's latest Core 2 processors. Unlike netbooks, these systems should provide better graphics and an overall better performance. Unfortunately, we have no details regarding their pricing or availability.
