A gigantic rat measuring twice the size of a normal rat terrorized a Swedish family after chewing its way into the kitchen through the concrete walls.

The Bengtsson-Korsås family, who live in a flat in Solna, northwest Stockholm, were shocked to discover that a monster rat gnawed a tunnel into their house and was living behind their dishwasher.

The 15-inch (40-cm) rodent was caught after the family cat began acting weird and refused to enter the kitchen. Initially, the family thought they were having a small pest problem and never expected to find such a beast in their house.

“I was away for a few days on business when my wife called me and told me that there was a mutant rat in the kitchen. I thought to myself that she was just over exaggerating and told her not to worry until I got home,” Erik Korås said, as reported by Daily Mail.

But they realized the uninvited guest was not just a regular house mouse when they spotted it eating leftovers under the kitchen sink, and then running around the kitchen floor.

Pest control experts were called to deal with the situation and installed industrial-sized traps to capture the giant rodent. But when the rat was eventually caught in one of the traps, it did not die instantly. It went underneath a wooden plant and was so powerful that it carried the trap with it.

“It was the biggest rat I have ever seen, and it looked like it was in good shape as the fur was nice,” Mr. Korås added.
