Quite a while ago, the news that a giant moth typically found in south-east Asia somehow made it all the way to Lancashire, UK, made a noteworthy headline.

More so seeing how the exotic creature was “with child” and soon enough laid several eggs from which caterpillars have only recently emerged.

Together with its offspring, the Giant Atlas Moth is now living at Animal World in Bolton, in the North West of England.

Most people agree that the creature has most likely escaped from a private collection, but it seems that nobody has thus far come to claim it.

Specialists explain that this particular moth species can grow to measure 30.5 centimeters (one foot) from one wing tip to the other.

“Often when people see Giant Atlas Moth they don’t believe they are real because of their size,” specialist Mark Lightowler told members of the press.

Furthermore, “It is just amazing and for it to have laid eggs, I am staggered.”
