The creature is believed to be a Chilean Rose Tarantula

As their name suggests, Chilean Rose Tarantulas have no business living in the United Kingdom (or in any other parts of the world except their native country, for that matter). Therefore, the news that one of them might now be on the loose in Cardiff, Wales is bound to cause quite a stir.

The assumption that one (perhaps even more) such spider is now living in said part of the UK is based on the discovery of a rather huge tarantula skin in the attic of a local 19th-century home. Sources say that the skin was discovered by a team of workers, and that preliminary investigations indicate that the creature has been exposed to asbestos.

“I will certainly not be going back in there. I was absolutely petrified and couldn't stop shaking for two hours. It was just horrific. I hate spiders and I hate them even more now,” surveyor Katie Parsons told members of the press.

Judging by the size of the skin and by what wildlife researchers know about this species, it is believed that the tarantula currently measures about 7 inches (roughly 18 centimeters) in diameter.

All things considered, it is likely that the tarantula used to be somebody's pet.
