Those who aren't into sports might not know this, but football players also fall into the divas category, and they are anything but shy to act accordingly. Simply put, they can come up with some really wacky demands.

Media reports say that, this past Wednesday, Ghana's government announced that it was to charter a plane with the sole purpose of flying a whopping $3 million (about €2.2 million ) in cash to Brazil.

The money was intended for the country's World Cup team and covered the Black Stars' appearance fee for the international football competition, information shared with the public says.

According to The National, the football players themselves were the ones who demanded that Ghana's government bend over backwards and make sure that they get their money in cash, and not by wire.

“The players are still insisting that they wouldn’t take anything but physical cash,” Ghana’s Deputy Sports Minister Joseph Yammin said in a statement, as cited by France 24.

Truth be told, it makes much more sense to keep money in your bank account rather that in your pocket in this day and age. More so if you happen to be loaded and haven't yet acquired a pair of pants whose pockets go all the way to your ankles.

Still, it turns out there was one very important and surprisingly valid reason the Black Stars demanded that Ghana's government charter a plane and fly their appearance fee in cash all the way to Brazil.

Not to keep you in suspense, the reason is revealed in the photo below, which shows football player John Boye smooching and whispering sweet nothings into the delicate ears of a stack of dollar bills.

Needless to say, this image of the football player kissing dollar bills is way more romantic than it would have been, had John Boye been holding a credit card in his arms instead of cold hard cash.

By the looks of it, Ghana's World Cup team were supposed to receive their appearance fee for their participation in the international football competition in Brazil quite some time ago, on June 12. However, for reasons still unknown, this did not happen.

Hence, they eventually got pretty angry, threw a fit, and twisted President John Dramani Mahama's arm into intervening and making sure that they would get their money. Commenting on this incident, the President reassured that the players had nothing to worry about and would be paid as promised.

As he put it, “The government is pre-financing the payment of the Black Stars appearance fees which will be reimbursed when Fifa’s prize money for Ghana’s participation in the World Cup is paid after the tournament in Brazil.”
