Portable computer systems continue to gain ground in front of the traditional desktop PCs, as new technologies enable better performance, portability, and new designs. This market spans across a range of segments, each one focused on delivering the features and performance required by different types of users. Rugged notebooks are aimed at a niche, requiring highly-durable solutions, being able to work under extreme conditions and withstand harsh treatment. On that note, Getac, a leading vendor of rugged computers, has just announced that its line of notebooks and tablet PCs have been MIL-STD-810G, MIL-STD-461F and IP65 certified, ensuring customer that they can work under hard conditions.

“We are pleased that our rugged notebooks, PDAs, and Tablet PCs exceeded military certification standards as well as our own standards which are often more strict than those imposed by the Department of Defense,” explains Jim Rimay, president of Getac Inc. “Receiving these independent certifications, along with our recent announcement of Resistive Multi-touch technology, assures our customers that Getac continues to offer innovative products that can endure and perform under the most extreme environmental conditions,” Rimay added.

The company's A790, B300 and M230 rugged notebooks, V100 rugged convertible notebook, E100 rugged Tablet PC, and PS535 rugged PDA received MIL-STD-810G certification, while the B300, V100, and PS535F also received the Ingress Protection (IP65) certification for dust and water resistance. In addition, the company's B300, M230, A790 notebooks and the V100 Convertible received the MIL-STD-461F certification for immunity against magnetic fields.

According to the company, its products were put through a certification process that included a series of 78 consecutive drops from as high as 6 feet, exposure to blowing rain, sand and dust, extreme heat, cold and condensation, as well as a variety of shock and vibration tests. All of these tests were conducted in an independent testing lab and can provide customers with the assurance that Getac's products can withstand the harsh working environments for which these systems are built.
