Getac, a designer of rugged mobile computing solutions, has recently updated its lineup of portable computer systems with the introduction of the new 9213 “business rugged laptop.” Coming to meet the performance and design requirements of business users, the new laptop combines a rugged yet stylish design with the performance of Intel's CULV platform. Featuring a 13.3-inch display, the laptop is part of the ultraportable segment and can provide users with an optimum performance level for handling everyday office tasks.

Although it can't be compared to some of the other rugged laptops on the market, like Panasonic's Toughbook, the new Getac 9213 looks to provide users with a number of rugged features, including a magnesium alloy chassis for better protection of the internal hardware components. In addition, Getac also included a water resistant C face keyboard and a shock-protected hard disk drive.

Aside from the rugged features, this laptop has been equipped with an Intel Core 2 Duo SU9400 processor, featuring a low-power 1.4GHz clock speed, 800MHz FSB and 3MB L2 cache. The processor has been combined with 1GB of DDR2 memory, which is expandable to 3GB, for those looking to upgrade their system's performance. There's a 120GB hard disk drive too, which can also be upgraded to 250GB, while the integrated Intel graphics can provide the laptop's 13.3-inch LED backlit display with support for a resolution of 1280 by 800 pixels. Overall, this looks like another ultraportable laptop that can also offer the end-user some rugged features.

Additional specs include a glide touchpad, an ExpressCard, memory card reader, Gigabit Ethernet, Bluetooth 2.1, optional 3.75G HSUPA modem, fingerprint scanner, Kensington lock and a battery life of up to 12 hours, using two battery packs. As far as pricing and availability goes, the system is already available for a manufacturer's suggested retail price of US$1,799.
