The culture of videogaming and that of comics are quite intertwined. Of course, there are videogames based on comic books, but publishers, like Electronic Arts with last year's Dead Space, have begun to see limited runs of comic books as an efficient means of promoting upcoming videogames.

Now, one retailer is taking one step further, as it is giving out tickets for the upcoming Watchmen with sales of Xbox Live Gold accounts. Can the box office success of the Watchmen movie be tied to that of multiplayer gaming through Xbox Live Gold?

Head over to Best Buy and choose between a new Xbox 360 gaming console and an “Xbox Live product.” Any of the two will net you two tickets to see the Watchmen movie based on the homonymous comic book. It seems that the cheapest Best Buy offer on which you can get the free tickets is one for a three-month Xbox Live Gold subscription. But there's also a special offer for a 12-month period that throws in a headset, a controller chat pad and Project Gotham Racing 4.

There might be two catches related to the offer from Best Buy. On the one hand, you have to be in the United States in order to take advantage of the offer. On the other hand, you need to make sure that the theater where you want to see the movie is on the list of the “participating U.S. Theaters.”

Why would you need to get Xbox Live Gold? Well, more than 50% of those who have joined up for the service offered by Microsoft for the Xbox 360 also chose it and it enables them to play all the games they own in multiplayer. Hey, you can even get a Watchmen-themed brawler and play that with your buddies just after seeing the movie.
