Lenovo might not be selling the Miix 2 but that’s for a good reason

If you’re a fan of Lenovo tablets, you might be aware that the company has decided not to replenish the stocks of its Miix 2 8-inch tablet once it becomes sold out in the US.

The company has responded to accusations that it plans to withdraw itself from the small Windows tablet market in the country, saying that it’s not their intention. The tech maker actually promised it would bring out a new 8-incher onto the market in time for the holiday season.

Yesterday, we speculated that this tablet might be the mysterious 7-inch Android slate with Intel processors that showed up on Indonesian website, Postel.

But as Notebook Italia has dug up, it appears that the Miix 2 will be discontinued for a much simpler reason. The company is planning to bring out its successor, in the form of the Miix 3.

A mention to the Lenovo Miix 3-830 has been spotted in the same database, and it’s a clear sign that we will probably see the new slate make a debut at IFA 2014 in Berlin next month.

The company has already send out invites for a press conference that has been scheduled for September 4 and we can expect a lot of good things from the event, including the Android tablet we talked about just a few moments ago.

We’re not exactly sure at this point what the number 830 describes, but the Miix family usually comes in 8-inch and 10-inch flavors, so we should see a larger model at some point too, but this is not the case at the moment.

As before, the listing on Postel doesn’t bring forth any technical characteristics related to the specifications of the Miix 3. All we can do at this point is speculate.

There are quite a few improvements Lenovo might bring to the table with the Miix 3. For example, the old version comes bundling an Intel Atom Z3740 Bay Trail processor, but the new devices could be powered by an Intel Moorefield or Merrifield chip instead.

The 8-incher could offer full HD resolution (1920 x 1080 pixels), 2GB of RAM and a choice between 16GB or 32GB of internal storage.

Furthermore, as it was uncovered months ago, the Miix 3 tablet could come with a total different design, allowing the tablet and keyboard part to be separated, in the vein of the 2-in-1s.

Some images of the 10-inch version of the Miix 3 were uncovered some time ago in the design database reddot and they show a convertible tablet/notebook combo coming with a bright paint job. What do you think?
