Midway definitely isn't going to have a very merry Christmas this year, as the sales of the company's major titles that were launched, like Mortal Kombat vs. DC Universe, aren't going precisely as planned. But hopes are high since the company has just announced that it has set the release date for the upcoming action driving game, Wheelman.

A worldwide release date of February 16, next year has been confirmed by Midway executives for the launch of this new game. Wheelman, developed by the Midway Studios Newcastle, will feature a unique game engine, which focuses on car driving, offering new ways for players to interact with each other.

The game will feature Vin Diesel, as Wheelam has resulted from a partnership between Midway and Tigon Studios, Diesel's own game company. He will be driving through the streets of Barcelona, which will feature a completely destructible environment, and, while players aren't in the car, there will also be a cover system similar to the one found in the Gears of War series of games.

"We're designing Wheelman to play like a Hollywood blockbuster," said Vin Diesel. "Playing this game will be just like taking control of the greatest car chases from feature films, except this time you're in the driver's seat." Martin Spiess, vice-president of Midway, then added that: "Featuring Vin Diesel and set in Barcelona, Wheelman is a title with enormous sales potential. We're making a multi-million dollar marketing investment to make sure that gamers around the world are ready when Wheelman goes on sale worldwide, which we have planned for February 2009."

For those people who are very interested in this title, there is also news that a script for a movie adaptation is already in the works and we might get the chance to see a silver screen version, which will surely include Vin Diesel.
