Natural looking makeup is actually a work of art

In the midst of a sea of heavily made-up female celebrities, seeing a natural beauty like actress Kate Winslet can be quite a shocker. Also a shocker was her latest appearance, when she was spotted by the paparazzi out shopping “bare-faced,” meaning, with almost no makeup at all. However, stylist Bobbi Brown is here to remind us that the au naturel look is harder to get than any other, but not necessarily impossible for us, regular women.

The first thing that we need to get such an exquisite makeup is lots of patience, Brown tells the Daily Mail. At the same time, Brown says that we must also rid ourselves of the misconception that, if we apply a bit of lipgloss and comb our hair, we’re anything close to what they call a “natural beauty.” On the contrary, this look requires attention to detail and time, to be just perfect.

First, we start with the foundation. “Use a tinted moisturizer which helps even out skin tone, reduce redness and give a fresh glow. Yellowy bases look the most natural on all skin tones. Use your fingers or a sponge to areas near the nose and mouth.” Brown says. Further on, we’re to apply a yellow-toned concealer under the eyes, to smoothen away any sign of tiredness and to brighten up the face. To achieve this, Brown recommends a concealer two shades brighter than the base applied.

For the eyelids, Brown recommends a rich, natural beige shadow, which must be applied “from lash to crease to even out skin tone, covering any imperfections, leaving a flesh-colored effect.” The effect of eye shadow will then be completed by black mascara, to be applied only in one layer so as to not weigh down on the lashes. For extra curling, Brown advises using the curlers before putting on the mascara. And, of course, to round up the picture, the eyebrows must be plucked perfectly, as theirs is the part of defining the face and drawing attention to the eyes.

Brown also advises us to exfoliate and properly moisturize the lips before applying anything to them. Once this is out of the way, a pinky-beige lipgloss is recommended, to give the mouth a fuller, fresher and healthier look. Speaking of healthy looks, we must not forget the blusher. ‘Blusher makes everyone look prettier. A shade that gives the color you get when you’re naturally flushed is a must-have. Use a tiny bit on the apple of the cheek.” Brown says.

With this in mind, let’s arm ourselves with patience, and prepare to be as breathtakingly natural as possible.
