If you thought the world was safe from another '80s revival - think again. Hair stylists are hurrying to let us know that big hair - I mean, really, really big hair - is back with a vengeance, as demonstrated by Angelina Jolie on the cover of the latest Vanity Fair issue. As expected, there's an added twist to making this look work for you and that's cross the classical 1980s 'do with the lovely "fresh off the beach" cascading waves sported by those fabulous Victoria's Secret models.

Top celebrity stylist Ted Gibson, who styled Angelina herself for the above-mentioned photo shoot (Anne Hathaway and the Victoria's Secret Angels are also on his list of customers) gives the LA Times the goods on just how to achieve this coveted look without overdoing it and looking like a Looney Tunes character who happened to be hit by lightning or stuck his fingers in an electrical socket.

The key products for achieving this look are a blow-dryer, lots of good-quality hair spray and hot rollers. Here is how the magic is done. After washing your hair (a volumising shampoo and conditioner combo would be a good idea), towel off any excess water and start styling. Distribute your hair into five even sections, and apply a volumising spray or mousse at the roots and on the scalp, along the partings which divide one section from the other.

Next step is to apply a serum or styling mousse all over your hair, brushing each of the five sections to make sure the product will be distributed evenly. Start blow-drying each hair section using a round brush to turn the end in as you dry. When there's no moisture left, it's time to bring in the cavalry - that is, the hot rollers. Separate you hair into 2-inch sections and wrap each section around a roller. Leave the rollers in until they cool off completely - which shouldn't take more than 10 - 15 minutes.

Finally, after the rollers are off, make sure your curls are not ringlets, but rather more wave-style. Apply hairspray all around your head, making sure not to use a product that weighs hair down or gets it stiff and sticky. The final step: throw your head over and do a little brushing. "Again, you want volume from the scalp. Make sure you do some back brushing. Just tease the hair a little at the crown, smooth down the top, and spray again. If you're concerned about fly-aways because of humidity, use a shine serum after brushing," Gibson advises us. You're all done.
